Where do I buy groceries?

Let’s get practical in this blog and talk about a topic a get so much questions about: where do I shop for food? Will I find the foods I like? How do I get there and bring back my groceries to the villa? Don’t worry, it’s easier than you think and you can breath easy, you won’t spend your vacation running round town to buy groceries!

The place to go is at Supermercado Playero in Sosua. It’s a large, modern super market that has all the North American brands that you will find in Canada and US. There is even a home section with small appliances, cleaning products, linens and hardware! They have the same quality of fruits, vegetables, meat and dairy you would find at home. Now, for those who know me, I have celiac disease so I need to buy gluten free products and they have a section dedicated to gluten free. So I can buy rice, quinoa, gluten free crackers, pasta and chips! If you haven’t tried chips and white wine yet, there is nothing better than that when you’re hanging out by the pool! You will also find all the wines, beers and rums there as well. It a one stop shop!

And it’s super easy to get there as it is a 5 minutes’ walk from Sosua beach where the Casa Linda shuttle takes you. What we usually do is coordinate our grocery shopping with the schedule of the Casa Linda shuttle on our way back to the villa. So we do our shopping and then wait beside to road in front of the Supermercado and the Shuttle will stop to pick us up and bring us back directly to our villa!

In between trips to Supermercado, you can also go to the Roadside Market located in the reception building at Casa Linda for basic products you would need like milk, juice, some fruits, chips, salsa, bread and wine just to name a few. And of course, if you don’t feel like cooking, you can also have your meals at Castaway restaurant. They offer a great diverse menu for all the family and they even deliver to the villa!

The lure of an all-inclusive resort is that you don’t have to cook, you just go to the buffet and eat. But cooking while on vacation doesn’t have to be time consuming and I enjoy prepping food and cooking with family and friends. We fire up the BBQ, have a glass of wine and enjoy being together. We know we are eating quality food, that is prepared fresh and we can share a meal in the privacy of the villa’s garden instead of sitting in a noisy, crowded restaurant.

So it’s super easy to shop for your groceries and find the foods that you like. It’s a fun part of vacationing at the villa and you will create family time and memories around the meals you prepare.

Until next time!
